DR. JED DARDEN, DVM, ACVO

Board-Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist

Dr. Joshua Edward Darden (Jed) hails from Lagrange, Georgia. He is a “Double Dawg”, graduating from the University of Georgia (Magna Cum Laude) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2011 and then his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (Summa Cum Laude) in 2016. Following his Doctorate degree, Dr. Darden moved to College Station, Texas, where he completed a small animal rotating internship and the Cool Whip Willie ophthalmology specialty internship at Texas A&M University. He was then selected for the first 3-year comparative ophthalmology residency at Texas A&M University. He completed his residency in 2021. Jed enjoys spending time in the Texas hill country vineyards, watching football, and sampling tacos and BBQ. He loves trekking through National and State Parks, and spending time outside with his fiancé and their Wheaten Terrier, Millie. Oh, and of course he enjoys taking cat naps with their cat, Oli.

DR. KEVIN FRITZ, DVM, DACVO

Dr. Kevin Fritz is a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist and joined STVO in January 2021. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Biology from the University of Kentucky (Summa Cum Laude) and then his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine (Valedictorian). Afterward, he completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Fritz completed his residency program at Eye Care for Animals in Tustin, CA, and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2013. He spent many years practicing in southern California before joining STVO in 2021. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Fritz also enjoys research and has participated in 16 different ophthalmic studies to date including publications in the distinguished journal of Veterinary Ophthalmology. Dr. Fritz lends his time as a teacher for many accredited continuing education lectures on various ophthalmology topics to veterinarians and residents across the county. Furthermore, Dr. Fritz gives back to his veterinary community, serving on the Ophthalmology Colleges’ (ABVO) residency committee as a member and co-chair.

DR. ANDREW GRELLER, VMD, DACVO

Dr. Andrew Greller is a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist and primary owner of STVO since 2013. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology & Environmental Studies from the University of Michigan and his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. After school, Dr. Greller completed a small animal internship at Animal Ophthalmology Clinic in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and then a 3-year ophthalmology residency in Phoenix, Arizona. He volunteers his services in a variety of meaningful ways such as free annual examinations to Guide Dogs of Texas as well as military working dogs at Lackland Air Force Base. He assists SeaWorld-San Antonio and the San Antonio Zoo with their ophthalmology cases as well. The following publications have covered Dr. Greller and his excellent customer service; The Washington Post, The San Antonio Express- News; North Central News, San Antonio Magazine, and San Antonio Business Journal. Dr. Greller was nominated by his clients and honored with the 2013 “Pick of the Litter” award by the San Antonio Area Foundation’s ‘Talk About It!’ campaign, which seeks to recognize outstanding veterinarians in the local community. In 2014, Dr. Greller was nominated by his clients and chosen as a finalist for the 2014 San Antonio Business Journal ‘Health Care Heroes’ “Rising Star” category, which celebrates health care professionals under the age of 40 who is making great strides and turning heads in the field. Dr. Greller sits on the board for Guide Dogs of Texas and the San Antonio Zoo and is the owner of The Greller Gallery, an art space dedicated to inspiring and educating people on various animal and environmental causes.

Currently raising a visually impaired golden retriever, I understand the special bond we have with our animals and I feel their eyes speak to us. They are family, and we don’t want to see them suffer.”
